Honoris Causa

The student organization comprised of Honors students, Honoris Causa, is the primary vehicle for Honors student participation in campus and community activities, social and cultural. Only Honors Program students can join Honoris Causa. All members are encouraged to join, and membership is mandatory for all scholarship recipients. Honoris Causa has won several awards for being the best student organization on campus.

Through Honoris Causa, Honors students can have their opinions heard, can affect Honors course offerings and activities and can be on the front lines of making a difference on their campus and in our community. For example, Honoris Causa has presented an annual pie toss fund-raiser for charity in which students buy cream pies to throw at professors. Honoris Causa fundraising has supported such causes as Heifer International, March of Dimes and cancer research. Honoris Causa is also the sponsor of the annual Student Colloquium, where students showcase their research, paper presentations, creative projects and original works. The CSU Student Colloquium is entirely run by Honors students, from program preparation to the introduction of speakers. Honoris Causa supports numerous literacy initiatives in our community, including reading with at-risk children to increase overall vocabulary, tutoring GED students and volunteering time to assist with family literacy events. In these activities, our students have become change-makers in the lives of many of our community members.

Honoris Causa meets at different campus locations throughout the fall and spring semesters. Honors students learn and practice their leadership skills by holding any of several offices, including president, vice president, historian, secretary, treasurer, hostess, webmaster and SGA representative.
