Honors students must take nine semester hours of Honors core curriculum courses. Usually the nine hours translates to three Honors courses, which will substitute for core curriculum courses. Class size is limited to 18 students. Several Honors core courses are taught each semester; most rotate on a two-year schedule:

Frequently ENGL 1102, in conjunction with one of the appreciation courses, includes a trip to Oxford, England, over spring break; the biology courses often include study abroad to Belize, Australia or Andros Island, Bahamas. ANTH 1105 requires students do original research and provides an opportunity for the best research to be presented at the Southern Anthropological Society conference in the spring. The honors history classes often involve day trips to important historical sites.
