Benefits of the Honors Program

The CSU Honors Program provides many advantages, including the following:

● Honors Scholarships for select students in the Honors Program (15 per year currently are available)

● Transcript designation: “Graduated from Honors Program (with thesis)”

● Diploma designation: Gold seal placed on diploma stating CSU Honors Program

● Special recognition at annual academic Honors recognition events. Those graduating with all requirements fulfilled or in progress will be awarded gold stoles they will wear at graduation

● Waiver of out-of-state tuition (limited number available)

● Study abroad opportunities (with some costs defrayed by the CSU Foundation)

● Special access to distinguished visitors to campus, including meetings and luncheons

● Travel opportunities in conjunction with Honors courses

● Registration the first day of early registration, regardless of classification

● Small classes; more individual attention

● Extracurricular activities, such as social and cultural events, just for Honors students

Honors professors get to know Honors students well, take pride in nurturing their abilities and are ideally suited to write effective letters of recommendation for graduate school or employment.

Anyone looking at an Honors graduate’s transcript will see “Graduated from Honors Program (with thesis)” and will recognize the graduate as being a capable and motivated individual. Such a designation impresses employers and is useful in gaining admittance to the best graduate schools.

The CSU Honors Program is part of a nationwide and nationally recognized system of university honors programs. As such, the extraordinary students enrolled in our program are part of the nationally recognized honors system.

The Honors Program is designed to challenge and reward highly motivated students with special intellectual, cultural and social opportunities. Activities in and out of the classroom offer a breadth of perspective and depth of understanding specifically tailored for Honors students.

The Honors Program offers friendships and camaraderie by providing opportunities for students to participate in a variety of enrichment activities, especially through Honoris Causa. Because
of this, membership is strongly encouraged for all members (mandatory for scholarship recipients).

Honors courses involve not more work or time than regular courses but a different kind of work. Generally, they involve more independent study, more stimulating and imaginative  assignments, more experiential learning and greater opportunities to use and develop writing, critical thinking and computer skills.
